Operating pumping stations is one of the biggest energy challenges for water utilities. Pumps account for up to 75% of total electricity consumption and 25–40% of operational costs. The need for continuous water supply, combined with equipment wear and constantly changing hydraulic conditions, makes pump energy optimization a critical factor for the sustainability and resilience of water networks, infrastructure and services.

IANIC has leveraged its extensive experience in designing and developing integrated digital ecosystems to create SALVIS—a modern software solution fully integrated into SmartVille IoT & AI platform, designed to optimize pump energy performance in real time.

At the core of SALVIS is the Best Electricity Use Point (B.E.U.P.) index, an innovative methodology that accurately reflects the true energy performance of pumps—from electrical input to water delivery into the pipeline. Using data collected in real time through the existing SCADA system, SALVIS analyzes energy consumption, pump characteristics and network operating conditions. By factoring in all loss parameters—from the hydraulic system and electric motor to equipment wear—B.E.U.P. enables benchmarking of pump performance and dynamically redesigns pump curves, automatically adjusting operations to optimal conditions. The result is a significant reduction in energy consumption.

As a module of SmartVille, SALVIS connects pump operations with other critical elements of the water management chain. By leveraging cutting-edge IoT, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Big Data Analytics technologies, the platform detects consumption patterns, identifies anomalies and proposes alternative operational scenarios. Thus, it supports decision-making for maintenance, scheduling interventions and reducing non-revenue water, improving the overall efficiency of the water supply system. Thanks to its architecture, the software can also be easily integrated into existing networks of any scale, making full use of current infrastructure.

SALVIS strengthens sustainable water management by reducing energy consumption and the CO₂ emissions associated with every cubic meter of water pumped. With continuous monitoring and real-time assurance of optimal pump performance, operational costs remain low, while equipment lifespan is extended.

IANIC proves in practice that digital technologies and data analytics can transform even the most energy-intensive infrastructure into smart, energy-efficient systems. With solutions like SALVIS, it redefines the role of technology in water management, enhancing water’s value as a natural resource, an energy asset and a public good.
